Skatterball

Skatterball came into the amusement industry with a bang and continues to be a proven money maker!  Its simple concept and attractive set up makes it easy to understand and appealing to people of all ages.

The object is for the customer to fire the ball into the vertical playing board and watch as the ball bounces back and forth between the metal pins in a skattered, crazy motion.  The player then has to determine where the ball will exit the pins and catch it with the U shaped catcher, finally depositing the ball in the win slot.  The more balls the player catches the bigger the size of the prize: encouraging players to stay and trade up!

The bright backdrop and loud sound effects draw in crowds, giving the operator ample opportunity for sales.  Most importantly, Skatterball appears easy to win, keeping players playing, again and again.

The game proves to be better than average on slow and medium days and extremely popular on busy occasions.  This seems to be due to a number of reasons.  The fact that the game is highly visible to the player as well as the perspective player, helps tremendously.  The use of seating provides comfort, rest and staying power in regards to repeat play, and as the number of players increases, so too does the noise level of the game which then attracts a new customer base from areas nearby.  It is also apparent that the constant movement of merchandise across the counters provides steady interest to the customer.

"Skatterball" has the ability to be operated in many different formats.  The operator has the option of changing the number of balls, the size of the prize as well as the price of play.  While some games chose to run at 6 balls for $2.00 with various options of pay out, other operators ran 3 balls for $1.00.  On this $1.00 game, no prize was given for catching just one ball, however if the player caught two or three balls he was awarded a prize that cost between one and two dollars, and traded up thereafter.  This proved to be a good variation in method of play for operators who had problem getting $2.00 per play.
